During the first half of the year 2001, there were 22 earthquakes of M≥6 5 occurring in the world,including 19 shallow focus earthquakes,2 intermediate focus earthquakes and 1 deep focus earthquake;8 earthquakes of M W≥7 0 occurred in the world, the maximum magnitude reached M W 8.4.On June 23,the earthquake of M W 8 4 took place near the coast of Peru,being the largest one with moment magnitude in recent 36 years.The earthquake disasters were serious in the half year,more than 20 thousand people died in the earthquake of M W 7 6 occurring in India on January 26.
