Various parameters of respiratory muscle function including maximal inspiratroy pressure (MIP) at mouth, maximal expiratory pressure (MEP) at mouth, Inspiratory tolence time (ITT), oxygen consumption (Vo2), maximal voluntary ventilation (MVV), peak expiratory flow (PEF). and forced expiratory volume at first second to forced vital capacity ratio (FEV1%) were measured in 82 male pilots and 38 healthy young men as controls. The results showed no statistical difference between the two groups. 50 of the 82 pilot undewe-nt flying training and another 32 experienced low-pressure chamber training. There were also no signifcant difference in parameters mentioned above before and after training. Therefore we concluded that: 1.The respiratory muscle function of pilots is the same as healthy young men; 2.The purpose of respiratory muscle training couldnt be achieved by flying and low-pressure chamber training; 3.It is necessary for pilots to have a special respiratory muscle training course; 4.The method and parameters of respiratory muscle functin mentioned above had good stability and repetition, so that thdy were recomended to be adopted in flying personnl training course.
