摘要
小径原木是当今世界上主要的木材资源之一,各国均在积极开发利用。文内着重介绍了林业发达国家在研究小径原木的材性特征和主要产品加工工艺特点等方面所取得的成果和经验。
With rapid and excessive exploitation of forest resources in thepast few decades, natural forest resources have been greatly reduced byharvesting on a large scale for commercial use and at the same time short-rotational intensively managed industrial timber plantations are developedquickly. As a result, small size log becomes one of the important woodresources for industrial utilization at present time in the world. Comparedwith conventional size of wood, most of small size log in a range ofdiameter from 6 to 24cm is usually considered as low grade timber, whichincludes high rate of juvenile wood, and has a low value and largevariation in strength. It has a narrow scope of potential utilization. Thispaper presents a general review of the meaning, standard, woodcharacteristics and properties in processing of small dimension timber. Thepaper also suggests some special technological processes for conversion ofthe low quality wood into high-value forest products such as furniturewith immense economic returns obtained, and with the wood shortagesignificantly reduced. It is concluded that the research and exploitation ofsmall size log is an urgent need for protection of the world forestresources and environment, and sufficient close attention should be paidto it in China.
