Preparation, properties and market of tablet laundry detergents were discussed in this paper. The tablet form has several advantages including easiness to ship, less shelf space, economy in transport, more functional aids and convenience for use. The detergent formulator must balance ready solubility against dry mechanical strength in manufacturing this novel form of product. Tablet laundry detergents are extremely popular in Europe and have taken 6 % share of laundry detergent market, but they are still in infancy in the United States and Japan.
