1986年河北地质学院毕业实习的机会,在赤峰初头朗东梁发掘40余件哺乳动物化石,经系统研究鉴定有下列18个种属。
During a field excursion, more than 40 pieces of fossil mammalia were found in the strata of Dongliang area, Chifeng by the author and his students in 1986. A Systematic study was carried out and 18 species (genus) were recognized as follows: Rodentia and Lagomorpha: Ocnotona sp. Marmot a sp. Microtus sp. Carnivora: Vulpes sp. Meles leucurn(?) Meles sp. Panthcra sp. Pagum sp. Perissodactyla: Hipparin sp. Equus sanmenieusis Telharb et Piveteau Coelodonta antiquitatis Blumenbach Artiodactyla: Axis rugosus Chow Cervus arayi Zdausky Cervinae Bard Proca Preolus GazelIa sinensis Telharb et Piveteau Bison palarosinensis T. et. P. In the light of the fossils mentioned above, 'Dongliang Fauna', and consequently 'Dongliang Formation' are established. A statistical study proves that, among the Dongliang fauna, 55.6% of its genus and 100% of its species are extinct. As a correlation, 33.3% genus and 93.6% species of the Nihewan fauna found in 1974 are extinct. According to Jia, 47% genus and 100% species of the Xihoudu fauan are extinct, whereas 58.3% genus and 100% species of the Xichun fauna are proved to be extinct by Shong. In 1983 some remains of the Nihewan (Danangou) fauna are found in the red soil of Pliocene Epoch, and consequently, the percents of the extinct genus and species of this fauna increased up to 75% ands 100% respectively. According to the statistical standard of China, it is probably that the Nihewan fauna (1983)is a transitional one of N_2—Q_1~1 Epoch. The abeve statistcal data suggest that, the Dongliang fauna is one of same period as that of Xihoudu and Xichun (Q_1~1); Nihewan fauna (1974) is that of Q_1~2 and the Nihewan(Danangou) fauna may be more primitive (N-Q_1~1).
