According to the results of field observation and theory analysis,it is found that the plastical deformation zone of narrow coal pillar of road driving along next goaf in sublevel caving face is formed by the effect of “given deformation”of the main roof.The width of plastical deformation zone f narrow pillar is determined by many factors such as main roof fracture pattern,mechanics character and thickness of immediate roof and coal seam.The calculating mechanics model of width of plastical deformation zone of narrow coal pillar is deducted from Mohr-Coulomb criterion.According to the results of the model,the way of determining reasonable position of road driving along next goaf is put forward and applied to practice.4figs.,1tab.,6refs.
