摘要
汉英委婉语的相似性表现在忌凶求吉、避俗求雅、礼貌悦人及美化时政等方面 ;它们的差异性表现在同一事物 ,一方婉言 ,另一方直言 ,汉语因同音字和谐音字而产生的委婉语多于英语、字面意义相同而文化内涵不同等方面。
The similarities of the Chinese and English euphemism are in the expressions of good luck, gracefulness, and avoiding bad luck, poor tastes. And the differences are shown in direct and indirect expressions. Homonyms and homophones in the Chinese language produce more euphemistic words than English. Also, the literary meaning of the words in Chinese and English are the same but they have different cultural connotations.
