Teaching Chinese as a second language has undergone a gradual change from attaching importance to acquisition of language knowledge and skills to emphasizing language structure & function and communicative competence.The communicative principle was the dominating teaching notion in the 20 th century,laying a solid foundation for the research of teaching methodology in the 21 st century.
