Abstract Several limits,which obstruct the rotor from passing through the critical rotational speed,have been investigated experimentally.The results indcate that if one of the vibration parameters rises to a certain level,standing state will come into being as the rotational speed approaches critical value.At this moment,even if the driving power continues rising,only the value of vibration will gain a sharp increase,but the rotational speed won′t.In such case,there is not only the trouble that rotational speed can′t pass through critical value,but also the danger that the shaft will be broken at any time or even worse accident will take place.
