摘要
对王受之所著《世界现代建筑史》一书提出批评，认为该书是“一个学术观念鲜有洞见、资料编排错误百出的粗劣之作”。通过分析，进一步指出，该书的种种缺陷正是当代中国的世界现代建筑史研究领域贫瘠状态的反映，而走出这种贫瘠状态的最根本的一步，在于停止制作这一类低质量的历史著述，尽快展开一项对西方现、当代建筑历史和建筑理论的持续、全面、系统、忠实的译介工作。只有这样，才能为真正开展中国的现代建筑史论工作打下最基本的学术基础。
This article is a commentary on the book A History of Modern Architecture written by Wang Shouzhi and proves through analysis that this is a low quality work which 'lacks independent thoughts and contains an alarming amount of mistakes'. Upon further reflection. this article draws the conclusion that the failure of this book reflects the widely spread symptoms in the barren state of world modern architectural research in China today. It argues that the most vital step out of this impasse is to stop the current trend of writing unqualified historical accounts and commit to a collective project that focuses on a consistent, thorough. systematic and honest translation of western modern architecture history and theory. Only in this way can China start to build up its own academic foundation for modern architectural research.
