分形几何是由当代著名数学家波努瓦·芒德勃罗创立的,它是刻画混沌运动的直观的几何语言,目前在自然科学、社会科学以及文化艺术领域获得了广泛应用。在芒德勃罗诞辰90周年之际,通过美丽的分形图案和他对复杂性研究做出的突出贡献来纪念这位天才的数学家具有重要的现实意义。他那敢与他人不同的创新理念和跨学科研究的思想方法,特别是"简单性孕育复杂性"和"无理性丰富有理性"的研究技巧给后人留下了深刻的印象。
Fractal geometry was established by Benoit Mandelbrot, one of the most famous contemporary mathematicians. Fractal geometry is the intu- itionist geometry language in describing chaotic motion, which is widely used in the fields of natural science, social science, culture and art. In the Mandelbrot's 90 anniversary of the birth, it is very meaningful to commemorate this genius mathematician, by learning and appreciating his beautiful geometric patterns and contributions for the researches of complexity. His new and distinct ideas, and inter-subject research methods, especially his research skills such as “simplicity breeds complexity”, “irrationality enriches rationality”, deeply impresses the later generations.
