Eudora Welty was a famous Southern American writer. "Moon Lake" was one of her most important short stories. As a photographer and novelist, Welty was endowed with a keen vision for body expression. Through different characters' body contact and physical performance in various cultural contexts, Welt)' gives readers a vivid metaphysical picture of Southern American cultural values. This essay is to examine "Moon Lake" not from metaphysical viewpoint, but will take body narration into metaphorical analysis. Within the background of Southern American culture, the essay explores the bearing cultural codes of body as space embodiment, as individual identity, and as sexual politics. The decoding of body metaphors shows the actual existence of female group in Southern American patriarchal society, and helps us grasp Eudora Welty's body poetics in writing.
