Some large public buildings built in the 1950's or the 1960's were usually separated into several division by deformation joints, but their width can not meet the provision of seismic joint in the aseismic code.In this case, the adjacent parts may be pounded and destroyed seriously or even collapsed during earthquake. In this paper, the problems of seismic pounding effects of existing buildings are probed by analyzing a few examples, and some details against pounding are put forward, which may serve as a reference for engineering technicians.
