In this paper, we summarize the ultimate principle of virtual experimentation technique and the VP-based virtual laboratory, and it's major characteristics and it's key technologies. The VP-based experimental method is the third scientific research method that is based on computing, in addition to the theoretical or experimental methods. It deals with such new information technologies as network computing and visualized scientific computing. It can perform software implementation of instrument and component. It can solve many problems that are insolvable in conventional methods. The paper presents three typical systems that represent the developing direction of virtual experimentation technique basically.2figs.,8refs.
