摘要
外语教育为通识教育重要的一环,在促进学习者业术精进之余,亦不宜单纯以其工具性视之。扎实的外语教育应涵括一定程度的内涵和人文素养,此为质化之教育层面,而非量化的效标。本文所讨论的外语涵养聚焦在文化沟通和文化差异的认知两重点上,这方面包括了不同文化的价值观、国际观、批判思考、文化知识、异质文化之伦理观、民主程序之体认等等,故而深度之外语教育非仅为技能及技巧的训练而已,亦有与异文化人士从不同价值基础上沟通及迈向国际化之各种隐性素养在内。
As an important component of general education,foreign language education(FL) contributes much to the learners' academic and professional achievements.However,one should not treat FL simply as a useful tool.There are much more than the functional aspects of it.Solid grounding in FL implies a certain extent of humanities cultivation.This is a type of qualitative,not quantitative dimension of education that needs to be addressed.This paper discusses two significant aspects of FL implications,i.e.,cultural communication and cultural gap.Such aspects include the nurturing of views on value judgment of different cultures,international perspective,critical thinking ability,cultural literacy,ethical views of diversified cultures,democratic process of running business and so on.In light of these,quality FL should not be mere teaching of language skills,it has to include several kinds of latent cultivation helping the learners to strive for a higher goal of internationalization.
