摘要
路由器是构筑未来网络的核心设备，路由器技术也已成为融合现代通信技术、计算机技术、网络技术、微电子芯片技术、大规模集成电路技术、光电子技术及光通信技术的核心技术。路由器的主要工作就是为经过路由器的每个数据帧寻找一条最佳传输路径，并将该数据有效地传送到目的站点。按路由器在网络环境中的功能可将之分为核心层、分发层和访问层路由器。从体系结构上看，路由器已经经历了多代的发展。
The basic function of router is presented in this paper including its working principles classification and application analysis． The developing process and tendency of router are discussed also． Finally it is proposed that router technology is the key technology of future networks and the backbone of next generation Internet and Intranet．
