詹姆斯·奥康纳的生态社会主义理论是对资本主义社会的生态学批判理论。它以制度批判为视角,剖析了资本主义与社会主义生态危机产生的根本原因,阐明了只有将社会主义与生态学相结合,最终走生态社会主义的道路,才能从根本上摆脱生态危机。生态问题向社会主义国家的蔓延增强了人们的生态意识和生态文明建设意识。詹姆斯·奥康纳关于生态社会主义的构想,对中国特色社会主义生态文明建设具有一定的借鉴意义。既要重视全球性视角与地方性视角的相互结合,又要协调生产力与生产关系在结构上的平衡,还要促进经济发展与生态文明建设的良性互动。
