In the 11th century, the Chinese people invented movable type printing. As one of the four great inventions in ancient China, printing used to exert important influence on the world civilization progress and human culture development. The invention of movable type printing was a great technical revolution in the printing history. It uses the movable metal or rubber fonts to replace the traditional manual copying and the printing blocks that could not be used again. When talking about the three ancient artifacts exhibited in his 'Time Imprints' shop, the shop owner Ruan Tongmin is very happy. 'I now have eight Chinese-made manual circular disk printing machines made in the 1950s and three German-made Heidelberg relief printing machines. The two small ones are the most ancient manual typesetting printing machines made more than one century ago. Of course, I have also kept 10 sets of relic-level copper fonts,' said Ruan Tongmin, introducing his collections to us. The three sets of equipment exhibited in his show are also utilized in his printing business. He transformed the manual round plate printing machines into automatic printing machines, thus making them have the modern style. The Heidelberg relief printing machines keep their former black appearance with the style of the former industrial era. Although they have been operated for so many years, the print quality is still very fine. Talking about operating these antediluvians, Ruan Tongmin said: 'In the past, people printed the newspapers with these Chinese-made printing machines after the typesetting. Since the printing operation had to be made manually, the efficiency was low.'With a view to protecting the printing machines, these machines are used to complete the relief printing work. As far as the typography work is concerned, it is launched to allow customers to experience the antique style of manual printing work.
