Populism is a widespread phenomenon deserving careful research in the process of world modermzatlon. Populism deeply rooted in American history. Since the late 19th century, there were at least four waves of populism appeared in America. However, the periodical ups and downs of populism in America brought about not huge chaos which would have interrupted or distorted America's modernization just as what happened in many others countries, but rather institutional innovation and intemalization of populism itself. This positive result came from the good platform composed of a social structure dominated by a large middle class and a pluralistic social pattern. On such a platform, it's easier to resolve contradictions between the elite and the people.
