The "other- race" effect describes the phenomenon in which observers typically find faces difficult to recognize and distinguish from one another if they belong to an ethnic or racial group to which the ob- server has had little exposure, but easy to catego- rize. Currently, how infants respond to faces of their own race and those of other races have received in- tensive investigation, and the investigations of the other- race effect in infancy mainly include two as- pects: (1) The emergence and development of the other- race effect in infancy under the natural envi- ronment, in which researchers focus on the face racepreference, discrimination, categorization and the way of face processing. (2) The influence of in- creased exposure to other ethnic groups in laboratory on the other - race effect. To further reveal the mechanism of experience upon the other - race effect, studies in future should enrich the research patterns, strengthen me experimental ecological va- lidity, and combine together with new neurophysio- logical techniques.
