NEPTUNE Canada is the world's first regional cabled undersea observatory network with a 800 km-loop backbone cable and five nodes on the northern part of the 200,000 km2 Juan de Fuca tectonic plate off Canada's west coast. It has been continuously providing various ocean environmental data to the science community since 2009 when it was operational for users, which promotes transformative ocean research. The NEPTUNE Canada's basic conditions including the region and scale are briefly presented, then the main components from design and construction to operation are illustrated in the aspects of scientific objectives and opportunities, technological challenges, safety measures, as well as operations and management. Some experiences are provided as reference for the olannin~ and construction of seafloor observatory projects in China.
