The main methods to gene transformation and their application in fruit trees are reviewed in this paper. The methods include using Agrobacterium mediated transformation, electroporation, gene gun bombardment and polyethyleneglycol (PEG) mediated direct DNA transfer. More than 20 species of fruit trees have been transformed. Most of them are Agrobacterium mediated.
