Objective The study attempted to understand senior people's handgrip strength and develop a scientific model for community health intervention based on the findings. Method Handgrip strength measurement was added to the existing examination system developed by the community health service center for senior people. Standard methods were used to measure their hand grip strength and analyze the data collected. Findings The average handgrip strength of senior people is about 17.78 + 7.45, which declines as they grow older and decreases even faster after 75 years of age. The male people's handgrip strength declines faster than that of the females ( P 〈 0.05 ). The males' handgrip strength value is higher than that of the females, but tends to be equal to that of the females after the age of 90. 11.3% of the senior people's handgrip strength value is lower than 9. If they experience anemia, abnormal blood sugar or triglyceride, high blood urea nitrogen and creatinine, the proportion of low handgrip strength value is higher than normal( P 〈 0.05 ). Conclusion When people get older, the proportion of low handgrip strength increases. Handgrip strength can reflect an elderly person's general physical condition.
