唯美主义,又称唯美主义运动,常指19世纪下半叶发生在英国的一场艺术运动。它既是一场先锋派艺术运动,又是流行文化运动,"崇美至上"是其核心特征。艺术上,它主张"为艺术而艺术",即艺术自主和纯艺术。生活上,它倡导人生艺术化,即日常生活审美化。这场艺术运动源生于19世纪英国社会的种种危机与挑战中,与消费社会、中产阶级以及专业社会关联密切。
Aestheticism,or the Aesthetic Movement,usually refers to an artistic movement that was prominent in England in the later half of the 19th century.It is both an avant-garde movement and a popular cultural movement,with'the cult of beauty'at its core.In art,it upholds'art for art′s sake,'that is,the autonomy of art and pure art.In life,it advocates'turning life into art,'that is,the aestheticization of everyday life.This movement arose from the various crises and challenges facing the 19th century English society and was closely related to the consumer society,the middle class and the professional society.
