摘要
由于南通僻居江海,长期少有战乱,使人们对成立以战场救护为初衷和主旨的红十字会的重要性和必要性认识不够。张謇在南通建立了众多近代慈善和公益事业,因而不愿分散精力和财力,另起炉灶,组建红十字会。尤其是红十字会源自西方,带着明显的"西教"意味,也让人们担心因此会受制于外人。张謇在创业的过程中曾与红会的领导人盛宣怀、吴重熹、严信厚等有过交往,对其印象不佳,评价不高,因此也就很难想象他会参加由他们领导的红十字运动。
Due to its unique situation, the Nantong City enjoyed peace for a long time, which lowed its importance ot setting up the Red Cross Society to relieve the injured person in the batdefield. Since there were many modern charity and public welfare under- takings in Nantong, Zhang jian was reluctant to spare time, energy and financial resources for Red Cross Movement, worrying about whether its western origin would spoil its independence. Zhang Jian, in the process of entrepreneurship, had contacts with Sheng Xua- nhuai, Wu Chongxi, YanXinhou, the leaders of the Red Cross Society who gave him bad impression and was not willing to join the Red Cross movement led by them.
