Praeaulacidae is an extinct hymenopterous family in the Late Mesozoic, including 3 subfamilies: Praeaulacinae, Anomopterellinae and Cretocleistogastrinae. The preceding 2 subfamilies are present in the Late Jurassic (pre Tithonian) strata of Karatau, South Kazakhstan (Rasnitsyn, 1972,1975,1980,1986,1990a,b) and the third is in the Lower Cretaceous of Russia, Mongolia and Australia (Rasnitsyn, 1975,1980,1986,1999a,b;Jell & Duncan, 1986). From the lower part of the Upper Jurassic Yixian Formation (generally regarded as latest Jurassic in age) at Huangbanjigou Village in the Shangyuan area, Beipiao, Liaoning Province, a new genus and species is described here and referred to the subfamily Cretocleistogastrinae. The Praeaulacidae is discovered in China and Cretocleistogastrinae in the Jurassic Period for the first time.
