World wide web (WWW) has made Internet/Intranet more and more popular. For enterprises, it will be a bright future to realize distributed computing when distributed computers could be connected with services of WWW to share computing resources within a certain scope. This paper introduces WWW based distributed computing, which uses distributed object and common object request broker architecture (CORBA) over client/server computing mode and uses Java to realize it. Java has transformed the WWW into an interactive system supporting objects, but it is not a sufficient solution to the problem of creating transparently interoperating objects for client/server systems. However, when coupled with distributed object technology, it forms a strong basis for the development of a robust system that supports client/server computing. A platform for universal network computing can be created using the mobile code system of Java and the integration techno logy of CORBA.
