本文从成年礼原型模式解读多丽丝·莱辛小说《天黑前的夏天》,阐述了女主人翁凯特离家开始夏日之旅到最后回家的过程符合成年礼的模式:儿童——严酷考验——成年人,并指出整个旅程与成年礼的通过仪式隔离——阈限——重整的过程正好不谋而合。该研究使得该小说的结局不再具有矛盾与争议性,为读者阅读莱辛的其他小说提供了又一有力的依据。
The paper decodes Doris Lessing＇s novel The Summer Before the Dark from the perspective of archetypal narrative pattern. It elaborates on the female protagonist Kate＇s leaving home for a Summer trip and finally returning home, which symbolizes the process of puberty rite： Child--Ordeal Adult and points out that the entire trip is in accordance with the Rite of Passage： Separation Liminal stage Reintegration. The research makes the ending of this novel no longer paradoxical and contwversial and offers the readers another powerful basis to read other novels of Doris Lessing＇s.
