摘要
英国十七世纪博物学家约翰·雷以植物学研究著称,但他在动物学上同样有显著的成就。他的鸟类、鱼类、四足动物及昆虫学著作,为这些学科的发展奠定了坚实的基础。然而,关于雷的著作本身以及其中涵盖的动物学知识,以及他对动物持有的看法,一直存在较大的争议。本文将从这些问题入手来论述雷在动物学方面的成就,进而探讨动物学研究与雷的自然神学思想的联系,指出雷的研究进路在当代语境下的启示意义。
John Ray, a seventeenth-century English naturalist, was famous for his botanical studies. He also did an excellent job in zoological studies. His extensive works on birds, fishes, beasts and insects, led to the scientific development of each field. However, there remain some questions about his works, the extent of his study, and his view on animals. Beginning with questions as such, this paper attempts to state Ray's achievement in zoology, indicates the relationship between his zoological studies and his natural theology, and points out the significance of Ray's approach in the modern context.
