摘要
朗文系列词典一直被公认为权威的英语学习词典。《朗文当代高级英语辞典》(英英.英汉双解第4版)更是具备收词量大、释义简明、例句丰富、搭配齐全、同反并收、英美兼顾等特点。但该词典在释义和译文两方面尚存值得商榷之处,本文在例证(含科技)分析的基础上提出若干修改意见,以期为词典使用者提供参考,为词典编纂人员提供借鉴。
Longman dictionaries have been regarded as authoritative learning tools for Chinese learners of Eng- lish. The 4th edition of the Longman bilingual Dictionary of Contemporary English has been commended for its large vocabulary, concise definition, abundant examples, numerous collocations and so on. However, some of the definitions and translations in the dictionary can still be improved. This article discusses such inadequacies with concrete examples.
