摘要
地理信息系统（ＧＩＳ）是与人类的生存、发展进步密切相关的一门信息科学和技术，目前已应用于诸多领域．文章介绍了ＧＩＳ的基本特点，讨论了一个新的ＧＩＳ软件－Ｓｍａｌｌｗｏｒｌｄ ＧＩＳ（ＳＷＧ）的特征、系统结构及其在供配电系统的应用．
GIS is an information technology which is closely relate to human beings' existence and advance. This paper introduces basic features of GIS, then discusses a new GIS Software-Smallworld GIS(SWG). An application in power supply system is also illustrated.
