The investigation of estuary Modaomen at the Pearl River focused on the change of eight dissolved heavy metals(Cu,Zn,Fe,Mn,Cd,Cr,Ni and Co) concentrations at three different water layers including water micro-surface layer, surface layer and bottom layer during the sampling period-from 30th July,2009 to 23rd January,2010.The result showed that the concentrations of dissolved heavy metals in the water body were influenced by physical-chemical water properties such as salinity,pH value, water temperature and seasonal changes.Meanwhile, the monitoring data has shown that the concentrations of heavy metals at the bottom layer were obviously higher than that at the surface layer and micro-surface layer.Furthermore, the results showed that the concentrations of heavy metals in the micro-surface layer were slightly higher than that in the surface layer due to the effect of enrichment. The average enrichment factor of all sampling sites for micro-surface layer is 1.631 which shows that there is strong enrichment at the micro-surface layer.
