In the years from the 1920s to the Civil War,in the course of anti-abolition movement,American Southerners formed a new argument for slavery, which insisted that slavery was "positive good",rather than "necessary evil".In order to justify their argument, slavery proponents tried to prove their viewpoints from the perspective of history, religion, and the realities.Their arguments were not totally unreasonable, but were unilateral, and not in line with the historical trend. Therefore, their new arguments could offer them temporary psychological support, but couldn’t save slavery from abolition.
