从南京市档案馆馆藏档案中可以看出,难民安全区国际委员会在南京沦陷期间主要做了安全保障、难民安置、食品供应、建立卫生设施、医院组织救护、警察管理等六大工作。档案向我们昭示：国际委员会在极端困难的情况下,出于人道主义的精神以及对中国人民的深厚感情,救助了大批南京百姓。他们闪烁着国际人道主义的光辉义举,就像黑夜里的一束烛光让苦难的中国人民看到了和平和友爱的希望。此外,档案中还有南京人民救助拉贝的相关内容,当南京人民得知拉贝回国后遭受纳粹迫害后,为了报答拉贝在南京沦陷时期救济难民的仁风善举,成立了劝募委员会,筹集善款、物资、救济拉贝,反映了南京人民爱好和平、知恩图报的传统美德。
