摘要
在《绝望主妇》这部风靡全球的电视剧中,由汤姆.斯加沃、勒奈特及其孩子们组成的小家庭中,作为家中男主人的汤姆,顾家爱子,幽默风趣,却性格懦弱,对充当强人主妇的妻子勒奈特甚至唯命是从,而其男性气概也正是在一次又一次的妥协退让中受到威胁。文章从汤姆在其家庭中的从属角色出发,借用康奈尔的男性气概理论,来分析男性气概在当今这个社会中所面临的危机以及出现危机的原因。
With the rising of feminism and the emancipation of women, women find a higher position in this society. The improvement of women＇ s social status in the society is bound to influence men＇ s role and evoke the change of their status. Masculinity lands itself into trouble in this process. In Desperate Housewives, Tom Scavo is humorous but weak in character and obedient to his wife Lynette. His masculinity gets into trouble in the process of compromise with his wife. Through Connell＇ s study of masculinity, this paper studies Tom Scavo with his image and analyzes masculinity＇ s crisis in present society.
