在近百年的美国西部开发中，水资源的开发和利用起了十分重要的作用。作者分析回顾了美国西部水利建设的历史，并结合中国西部大开发所面临的机遇和挑战，提出了当前规划工作中应当重视的几方面问题。
his paper reviews the water resource development history that played a key role in the development of Western U.S. In view of the opportunities and challenges in China's Western Development, the authors presents some points in current planning.
