Pseudomonas sp. strain ND6 that was isolated from industrial wastewater is able to grow using naphthalene as sole carbon source and degrade naphthalene of 2 g/L in minimal medium by 98% in 48 hours. This strain contains a large plasmid of 115 kb, pND6. DNA hybridization analysis indicates that pND6 contains naphthalene-degrading genes that are homologous to the genes of naphthalene-degrading plasmid NAH7 from Pseudomonas putida G7.
