Isiah Berlin、Charles Taylor面对历史上众多自由观念,分别提出了消极自由、积极自由和机会式自由、运用式自由的二分法。Eric Nelson试图以一种广义的消极意义的表达方式即自由是障碍的缺乏来囊括所有的自由观念。这种方式没有抓住积极自由观与运用式自由观的本质,不能够成立。
Isiah Berlin and Charles Taylor separately advanced dichotomies of conceptions of liberty, in the face of numerous of conceptions of liberty having been raised in history. However, Eric Nelson tried to streamline the conceptions of liberty in a broad negative sense which generalizes them only by a definition based on internal and external obstacles. This way fails to capture the essence of the positive and exercise conceptions.
