Nanoscaffolds have been used in the past to grow cells in specific structures, but difficulty arises in fine-tuning the structure's spacing. Recently, a new technology called "electrospinning" has been developed. The technique involves spinning two different types of fibre: one stable and slow-to- degrade polymer which reinforces the structures, and another, water-soluble type which can be removed to change the dimensions of the matrix as required.
