Adopting Lakoff & Johnson's conceptual metaphor theory as theoretical framework and president Obama's State of the Union Address in 2011 as research corpus,the analysis is carried out from two perspectives to probe into the coherent function of metaphor:one is coherence constructed by a single conceptual metaphor,the other is coherence constructed by more than one conceptual metaphor.
