Both the profane city and the sacred city are metaphors of great anxiety of modern civilization and earnest expectation towards order revival.Through the progress from the profane city to the sacred city,Eliot reveals the possibility of regeneration of the moral civilization,and makes the readers give further thought and exploration about his poets.
