In order to study the interspecific competitive relationship of Platymonas helgolandica var. Tsingtaoensis and Chaetoceros muelleri Lemmerman, two kinds of microalgae's growth characteristics in single cultivation and cocultivation were observed using of KNO3 and KH2PO4 as N and P source at five mass concentration gradient. The results show that: (1) In single culture condition, P. helgolandica's density is positively related to nitrogen and phosphorus mass concentration (P〈0.05), and C. muelleri's density is also positively related to nitrogen mass concentration. But algae density is found to be the highest in phosphorus 1.14 mg/L (P3). (2) Growth effect of two kinds of algae in cocultivation condition is less than in single culture, which shows significant difference (P〈0.05). (3) P. helgolandica's optimum N/P ratio is 14.81, which has higher demand for P. While C. muelleri's optimum N/P ratio is 26.93, which reveals the better adaptability to the low phosphorus concentration. (4) In cocultivation condition, the P helgolandica of nitrogen treatment group takes a significant competitive advantage. While the C. muelleri of phosphorus treatment group has more competitive advantages. P. helgolandica manifests the obvious competitive advantage in the early stage and late period of cultivation, and C. muelleri shows a greater competitive advantage in the middle period of cultivation.
