Objective To investigate the prevalence of HIV/AIDS (human immunodeficiency virus/acquired im- munodeficiency syndrome) infected through three routes of transmission among staying family members of overseas laborers, in order to take integrated control measures to contain HIV/AIDS transmission via sex inside the family. Methods Door to door AIDS epidemiological studies and HIV antibody tests had been conducted among 2 494 staying family members of overseas laborers in 80 project sites of 8 counties (cities) in Yanbian Prefecture since 2009. Results No HIV infection was found among the subjects under study. The rate of correct answer to AIDS transmission through sex and blood donation was 97.63 (2 435/2 494) and 97.47% (2 431/2 494) respectively, and the rate of correct answer to transmitting HIV from mother to child was 85.32 % (2 128/2 494), while the rate of correct answer to whether mosquito bite could transmit AIDS was 91.86% (2 291/2 494), and that to the question whether condom use could prevent transmission was 95.03% (2 370/2 494). Of the subjects 82.31% (2 053/2 494) thought that HIV infected individuals and AIDS patients should continue to work and study, and 77.75% (1 939/ 2 494) agreed to keep the contact with AIDS friends or relatives. Conclusion The effect is obvious by carrying out the comprehensive prevention and control interventions in the key population by considering local characteristics of Yanbian Prefecture..
