This paper gives a brief introduction on the dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems with emphasis on the non linearity of optical fiber at first. And then, the development of the large effective area fiber (LEAF\+\{○R\}) is presented. Besides the profile design, the typical optical properties, the effective area and its measure methods, the application of LEAF\+\{○R\} in telecommunication systems has also been outlined.
