因为我们需要的城市历史文化是一个氛围．城市环境的文化底蕴也不是靠保护一两个建筑就能得到．而是需要一大片． 因此有必要调整我们对城市历史文化和传统建筑保护工作的理解，将单纯依靠资助的眼光转向开发的领域．获得新的观 念和资金的输入。“新天地”的开发．是一个好的尝试。
What we need of our historical urban culture does not produce from preservation of single buildings but preservation of environment. In order to do this, it is important to change our previous simple view that only new development can get economic gains and conservation does not. But the experience of 'Xintiandi', a redevelopment based on conservation in an urban environmental scale is telling us another story.
