摘要
ON是英语短语动词中使用频率很高的小品词之一。短语动词的语义具有不可分析性,但从认知语言学的角度分析,ON在短语动词中的基本义可以通过意象图式构建出来,其引申义可以通过隐喻推断出来。运用意象图式理论和隐喻理论是详细解读ON在短语动词中的语义的有效途径。
ON is one of the particles used frequently in phrasal verbs. The meanings of phrasal verbs are traditionally considered as not analytical, however, on the basis of cognitive linguistics, basic meanings of ON in phrasal verbs can be constructed with image schema, and its extended meanings can be inferred by metaphor. This article interprets its basic meanings and extended meanings in phrasal verbs with image schema and metaphor in detail.
