OBJECTIVE To study the pathogenesis of higher incidence of rotavirus (RV) mlecttons in panents wtm respiratory tract infections complicated with enteritis than in those with simple enteritis through analyzing the clinical data of the patients with respiratory tract infections complicated with enteritis and the patients with simple enteritis. METHODS A total of 782 cases of diarrhea infants aged from 3 months to 5 years old who were enrolled in our hospital during the period Nov 2010 to Mar 2011, were collected, including 153 cases of respiratory infections complicated with enteritis, the antigen of RV was detected using colloidal gold assay. RESULTS The rate of RV infection in the patients with simple enteritis was 39.9%, the rate of RV infection in patients with the respiratory tract infection complicated with enteritis was 49.0%, the rate of the RV infection in patients with simple enteritis and the rate of the RV infection in the patients with respiratory tract infection complicated with enteritis in Nov the highest during the period of Nov-Mar next year, which were 44.5% and 54.5%, respectively; the rate of the RV infection in the patients aged from six month to 1 year old was 44.6%, and the rate of RV infection in patients with respiratory tract infection complicated with enteritis was 63.2 %, the rate of RV infection decreased as the age increased. CONCLUSION The rate of RV infection in the patients with respiratory tract infections complicated with enteritis is significantly higher than those with simple enteritis.
