The materials under study here were collected from Liangshan Formation , Kaili County, Guizhou Province. The Sporo-Pollen assemblage is diverse, abundant, and well preserved.
In addition, 56 species of 41 genera of Sporo-Pollens and 2 species of two genera of Acritarchs are reported, and the new taxa are described.
There is a great increase in pollen of the Pteridosperma and Gymnosperms which make up 40-55% of the total.
The palynological characteristics of this, zone can be summarised as follows:
1. The lower limit of the zone is marked by appearance of Sinulatisporites sinensis Gao and Gulisporites cochlearius Imgrund, and are abundant in the Shanxi Formation of Northern China. The composition of this assemblage is similar to those obtained from Sinulatisporites sinensis-Gulisporites cochlearius (SC) zone in Northern China.
2. Predominance of monosaccate pollen (about 30 -40% ), including Florinites minu-tus Bharadwaj, F. ovalis Bharadwaj and F. mediapudens (Loose) Potonie and Kremp.
3. More or less constant occurrence of Calamospora pallida (Loose) Schopf,Wilson and Bentall, C. flexilis Kosanke,Punctatisporites brevivensus Kaiser, Triquitrites tribullatus (Ibrahim) Schopf,Wilson and Bentall, Tripartites trilinguis (Horst) Potonie and Kremp,Endispo-rites globiformis (Ibrahim) Schopf, Wilson and Bentall, E. punctatus Gao, Lundbladisporagi -
gantea(Alpern) Doubinger.
4. Appearance of the first monolete spores of Schizaeoisporites microrugosaTschudy and Kosanke, Extrapunctatosporitesfabaeformis (Agrali and Akyol) Alpern and Doubinger, Mac-
rotorispora media (Quyang)Chen, and M. cathayensis Chen.
5. Presence of several Disaccates non striatit and striatit pollen such as Vitreispori-tes signatus Leschik, Sulcatisporites ovatus (Balme and Hennelly) Balme, Corisaccites alutus Venkatachala and Kar, Lueckeisporites virrkiae Potonie and Klaus, Alisporites splendens(Les-chik) Foster, Striatopodocarpites cancellatus (Maheshwari) Jardine, Striatites minor Klaus , and Protohaploxypinus spp.
6. The early Early permian sporo-pollen assemblage of Guizhou is contained typical
Permian elements of Northern and Northwestern China, Western European and North American , but also comprise few element of Carboniferous , including Verrucosisporites verrucosus Ibrahim, Convolutispora venusta Hoffmeister, Staplin and Malloy, Raistrickia irregularis Kosanke, R. rubida Kosanke, Densosporites anulatus (Loose)Smi-th and Butterworth, Lycospora pusilla (Ibrahim) Somers, L. rotunda (Ibrahim) Somers.etc.
7. Appearance of Acritarchs (Tetraporina prima (Naumova) Gao,and Peltycystia venosa Balme and Segroves). Also present in this assemblage are Acritarchs which indicate a marine influence in the sediments and occassional miospores which suggest a near-source environment.
Judging from the characteristic components of the assemblage, the Liangshan Formation is possibly correlated with the Autunian of Western Europe, and Wolfcampian of Northern American.
