摘要
“现代意识”这个词组一般而言，主要指的是以现代主义的文化思潮和文艺创作为核心的思想和文学意识，早基于欧美的文化和文学的历史情形而建构出来的，但是在描述和讨论中国文学的问题时关注的重点不在于文学的双关关系，也不是中国文学中的西方问题，应该着力凸现身处中国自身的历史情境之中的中国主体的思想、文化和文学反应。中国现代意识既不是一个和西方现代意识相隔绝、相对立的概念，它接受西方现代意识的启迪和激发。
Modern Consciousness is the cocept inviting various understanding or associations. Rooted in the western culture and literature, it is generally held as a literary consciousness which finds its kernel in the cultural trend and literary and artistic creation of modernism. As for the modern consciousness in Chinese literature, the relations between Chinese and western cultures and literatures have to be discussed, but in this paper, the focus is neither on the relations between Chinese and western literature, nor the western influence on Chinese literature. The modern consciousness in Chinese literature is taken as a separate subject which was born in China and which is significant in Chinese history, though it is closely related to or even inspired by the modern consciousness in the West.
