James Baldwin, one of the most famous African-American writers,is a pioneer writer who openly wrote about homosexual themes. His view on homosexuality can be explained by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross' theory on death—five stages of grief.Baldwin's writings represented by "Go Tell It on the Mountain","Giovanni's Room",and "Another Country" reflect his dynamically developing view on homosexuality which undergoing the following stages:denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance.Baldwin withstands the dual pressure from racial discrimination and homosexual dilemma to write about the life and inner city of homosexuals. His writings are of great historical significance in revealing the homosexuals' living condition and their views of live, promoting the homosexual liberation and development of homosexual literature, leading the homosexuals to search for their identity.
